How to update Webstorm on Linux?

I have a Webstorm on Linux and I get a warning that there is an update, I'm trying to get some information from the Internet, but all I get is HOW TO INSTALL THIS and do nothing to update it.

So what do I need to do to update my web buffer?

It depends on the type of update. If a patch update is available, you are usually prompted to upgrade and restart - when you restart the patch, it is applied. But update updates are only available for subsequent minor releases. In other cases, you need to download the full installation package from the main download page and install it in an empty directory (not on top of an existing installation!). When upgrading to a new major version, you will be prompted to import your settings from a previous installation to the first start

This leaves a torn panel. Points to the old directory. Easy to fix in KDE, but a bitch in a gnome.

How do you upgrade to a new version of WebStorm without breaking your launcher?

Update: this is for Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 ...

Ok I understood. Here's how to fix it. In the terminal, go to /usr/share/applications

cd /usr/share/applications

Delete old launcher ...

sudo rm jetbrains-webstorm.desktop

Change to the directory where webstorm.sh installed. In my case, this is /opt/WebStorm-162.1121.31/bin . Run it as superuser ...

sudo ./webstorm.sh

In the splash screen, select "Customize | Create desktop entry" in the menu in the lower right corner. Since you started it as sudo , just accept the superuser warning and you will have a new launcher. Close WebStorm, close the terminal, and now you can start WebStorm from the application menu.
