Numbered headers in Org, Emacs mode

I was wondering if you can get the automatic numbering of the headers in org-mode, something similar to what is used for simple lists. For example, I can have this list:

  • one
  • two
  • three

And I can change the order 1. two 2. three 3. one

List items change, but list numbers remain unchanged. How can I do something similar with the headers so that I can arrange the headers in a similar way.

  • 1 one
  • 2 two
  • 3 Three

To

  • 1 two
  • 2 three
  • 3 one

If you are looking for a way to show this in Org itself, I am afraid it is not possible. However, you can do this easily in the exported document. See the export section in the manual.

You can specify this option: #+options: num: 2 . Then all headers at level 2 or higher will be exported with a number. You can then customize the headers as you like in Org without affecting the numbers in the exported document.
