Does AWS S3 automatically cancel multiple downloads after a timeout?

Using multipart uploads , Amazon S3 retains all parts until the download is complete or interrupted. In an anonymous crash situation, it would be nice if the dropped downloads were automatically interrupted after a timeout in order to reclaim the space and avoid the cost of any parts that made it.

It would be possible to create some kind of external monitor using ListMultipartUploads , but it would be better if S3 did this automatically.

If you initiate the download and possibly download some parts, but then do nothing, will S3 end up interrupting it for the bucket owner?

No. On the document page that you indicated, "After you initiate a multi-page download, Amazon S3 retains all parts until you finish or stop the download."

If you do not complete or stop the download, all the parts that have been downloaded will be just kind and you will pay for storage until you do this.
