Chrome hijack escape key for vim mode in cloud9 IDE

Question

Using cloud9 IDE in vim mode, when I press the ESC key (trying to change the vim modes), somehow it seems that chrome grabs the ESC key and I lose focus on the IDE. Is there any way around this? BTW: cloud_ IDE vim mode works fine in Safari browser.

I found a workaround: using Ctrl-c instead of Escape.
