Vim + iterm: how to use the mouse for everything, EXCEPT the choice?

Well, you have a very specific setup question. I use Mac OS X, iTerm and vim. I really like to use my mouse to click tabs in normal mode, scroll in normal mode, etc. (For example, I already have a mouse running in iTerm / vim).

However, I do not like to use visual mode for selection. I just want to use OS X selection not vim visual select. The next logical step? Disable visual selection in mouse options:

set mouse=nicr

The problem is that when I try to select (using the mouse), vim intercepts a mouse click and does not allow me to select at all!

Does anyone know how to deal with this problem? It seems to be solvable if you know the correct character / code codes (which I obviously don't know).

Purpose: use mouse in vim for everything except "select". Let iTerm / OS make the choice.

I don’t have a Mac, but under Linux it holds Shift, and the highlight allows me to use the mouse to copy with the mouse settings you specified.

See "Note:" in: h mouse
