Adding a gif image as an Android boot icon?

I am currently trying to take an animated gif image and use it as an Android download icon. In other words, I'm trying to take a gif and use it when I wait for another screen to load. I understand that I can do this with a series of photos, but can it be done with just one gif image? I'm really not sure how to do this. Thanks!

You may not really need what you are looking for, but you can definitely use an "image sequence" animation as your loading screen.
