HAXM Hardware Requirements

Do I need to upgrade my processor to start HAXM or am I missing something? If I missed something, any hints would be greatly appreciated :)

  • My processor is Intel Core2 6300 @ 1.86GHz 1.86GHz installed memory is 4.00 Gb. Powered by Win7.

  • I turned on VT in the BIOS, but is it for 16 and 32 bits? This is problem?

  • I ran Intel Processor Identification Utility, pidenu39.msi file from ... Intel® Processor Identification Utility - Windows version *

This tells me that on the CPU Technologies tab in my processor there is Intel Virtualization technology, but it does not have VT-x virtualization technology with extended page tables. This is normal?

  • On this website Configure Virtual Machine Acceleration

I followed all the instructions in this section ... Setting up VM acceleration in Windows

a sc intel haxm request indicates that the virtualization driver is working correctly.

  1. I am running the latest version of Android Studio. I am launching a very simple Hello Android application from the Android Devekopment for Dummies book, chapter 3. Nothing complicated or dirty here :)

I get this sequence of messages ...

C:\AndroidSDK\tools\emulator.exe -avd Nexus_5_API_21_x86 -netspeed full -netdelay none

emulator: fd device: 584

**HAX is not working** and emulator runs in emulation mode emulator: The memory needed by this VM exceeds the driver limit . emulator: warning: opening audio input failed creating window 39 53 300 532 ../../sdk/emulator/opengl//host/libs/Translator/GLES_V2//GLESv2Imp.cpp:glAttachShader:156 error 0x501 ../../sdk/emulator/opengl//host/libs/Translator/GLES_V2//GLESv2Imp.cpp:glAttachShader:156 error 0x501

The following are many other 0x501s errors

How much RAM is installed for use in your AVD configuration? this number should be lower than or equal to the memory usage that you installed during the HAXM installation.

If I’m not mistaken, you are using Android Studio , and when creating a virtual device with AVD there is an option for RAM size, please read this Control AVD using AVD Manager

In addition, the default block size is 96 megabytes .

Just notice, but if you want to change the amount of RAM available to HAXM, you can restart the installation and this will allow you to change the setting.

I accidentally found out about this when I was trying to update HAXM. On the last page of the installation, you are informed that you can change this parameter by restarting the installation.

I had the same problem with a similar Core i3 processor in my VAIO laptop. VT was also included in the BIOS, and the problem was fixed when I removed the avast antivirus (without disabling protection), and so I could finish installing HAMX. After that, I installed Avast software again.

I hope this problem can help more people.
