Is it possible to have animated launch icons for Android apps?

I'm just interested if Android supports animated launch icons such as iOS, has a Calendar app that always shows the current day or watch that has a moving hand on the icon.

Not in general. Android has application widgets for this.

Some home screen implementations may offer developers APIs for animated launcher icons, but this depends on the particular screen implementation. There is nothing standard for Android for Android.
