Are @ 3x images required?

I want to update an application that was developed before the @ 3x assets appeared. Will my application be rejected if I do not include the @ 3x version for each image?

No, the @ 3x suffix is only recommended if you support iPhone 6+ (iOS 8+), although this is not currently required. The following are requirements and recommendations for image sizes.

If your application supports iOS 7, it will not be rejected. One of my apps was recently approved (a month ago) that have no @ 3x images.

But it must be confirmed for an application developed in iOS 8

Edit

For information:

The application was already in the AppStore, and I am providing an update.

Found from What's New on iOS 8

Support for the new screen scale The iPhone 6 Plus uses the new Retina HD display with a 3.0 screen scale. For the best experience with these devices, add new illustrations designed for this on-screen bar. In Xcode 6, asset catalogs can include 1x, 2x, and 3x images; just add new images and iOS will choose the right assets when working on the iPhone 6 Plus. IOS image behavior also recognizes the @ 3x suffix.

I am afraid that you need to provide @ 3x images for all asset images if you are going to publish your application for iOS 8.0 and for iPhone 6 plus. As stated clearly, "iOS image upload behavior also recognizes the @ 3x suffix."

I suggest you include @ 3x images before you go for approval.
