IOS 8 Recommended Apps - How Does It Work?

Recently, I have been working with a client who would like to use the new App App App function for iOS 8. The purpose of the client was to display a notification about the screen lock of the application at any time when a person passes a certain geolocation. After spending some time trying to find a specific answer to what level of control (if any), the client will have more features of the Apple App App, it was decided to send our questions directly to Apple.

Below is a copy of the questions I sent to Apple.

Hello,

For our next version of the app, my team and I would like to use the Apple Suggest App feature introduced in iOS 8.

We looked through the iTunes Connect portal, and we were unable to find the configuration panel anywhere, which allows us to control when / where our application should appear as a proposed application.

Questions:

  • Is it possible to indicate the conditions under which the application will appear as a proposed application for users who have not yet downloaded it?

  • Is it possible to specify a geo object that displays our application as a proposed application on the user's lock screen?

  • If we do not have control over the configuration of the Apple Recommended App, under what conditions will our iOS appear on the user's lock screen as a proposed application?

STEPS FOR PLAYBACK

  • Turn on the phone
  • Include suggested apps
  • Enable 3G
  • Screen lock
  • Pass the region.

Expected result: the proposed application will appear on the iPhone lock screen.

Here is the answer I received directly from the Apple Support Support Team:

Hello,

Recommended locations Applications are recommended on the lock screen and in the App Store based on a number of factors, including their popularity in the location, and there is no mechanism or process by which the application developer can add his application to the list of recommended applications.

However, if your iOS application is directly related to a location or a meeting place (for example, an iOS application for a shopping center that is published by the owner or operator of the shopping center), and you think that the relevance of iOS Apps ensures that it is included in the Recommended Applications list, then You are invited to submit an improvement request through http://bugreport.apple.com/ and ask Apple to consider whether your iOS application should be included in the list of recommended applications for this location.

You must provide as much detail as possible in the request for the extension “about the application and the location / placement”, for example, “Application ID”, “Application name”, “Application URL in the application store”, name of the venue, meeting place ( address and lat / lon), the relevance (if any) of your iOS application for the place / place and the relationship (if any) between you as the developer and owner / operator of the place / place.

Submitting a promotion request does not guarantee that a particular iOS application will be added to the list of recommended applications for a place or place, and the only feedback on request from Apple will go through the http://bugreport.apple.com/ error reporting system.
