Intellij: move tab left and right

Is there a way to move / move a tab using the keyboard? I know that I can switch the tab using ALT + LEFT / RIGHT, and I would like to be able to move them, possibly using ALT + SHIFT + LEFT / RIGHT.

Is it possible?

My research shows that there is no way to do this (currently). There is "Move Right" and "Move Down", but it just breaks the groups of tabs vertically and horizontally respectively. There is no key binding that is also related to this.

Perhaps suggest it as a function: https://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issues/IDEA/( they have a bad certificate, so I don’t want to refer directly)

There is a plugin for this, which you can install: http://www.smardec.com/products/idea.html

Unfortunately, it does not work in Intellij 13 (gives runtime errors)

I'm not sure if you can move the actual tabs. However, if you use CTRL + TAB , you will get the same functionality that you see by doing ALT + TAB on Windows.

You can hold down the key combination value to find the tab you want to copy, and then just press the key combination to switch back and forth.

There is no built-in keyboard shortcut for this functionality since the last build of 2017.

You can vote for it in a search journal .

The TabMover plugin has been running for the past few years in WebStorm. (Confirmed in January 2019)

You can install it directly from Preferences > Plugins . Just find TabMover

MacBook has standard keyboard shortcuts: Cmd - Opt - Shift - Left / Right .

But you can reassign them to Ctrl - Fn - Shift - Up / Down if you want.

Under " Preferences > Keymap Search by Preferences > Keymap Move Tab To Previous and" Move Tab To Next

(By the way, if you want to use the same behavior for tabs in Google Chrome, I can recommend expanding the keyboard shortcuts to change the order of the tabs . Firefox works out of the box!)

My workaround for this is to set keyboard shortcuts in IntelliJ for

  1. Move to the opposite group
  2. Move right

What these keyboard shortcuts do: Move to the opposite group: (moves your tab to another tab if the window is already split. Does nothing if there is no split tab.) Move right: (this splits the current tab in half and moves your current tab to another half) So, when there are no tabs, use the keyboard shortcut to move to the right, and if it already exists, use the transition to the opposite group.

To set keyboard shortcuts , open the settings (Ctrl + Alt + S) and go to the keyboard layout. Just find "move right" or "go to the opposite group"

I installed my ctrl + numpad7 and ctrl + numlock respectively.

So this is an old post, but in Pycharm 2018 you can create a macro to move the tab left or right and assign it a keyboard shortcut. Edit> Macro> Start Macro Recording

I just selected all the text and used Shift + Tab to move to the left (decrease the indentation of the line) and only Tab to move to the right (increase the indentation of the line).

By default, it seems that Alt + Right / Alt + Left now does the job: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/webstorm/using-code-editor.html

For me, I use Alt + Left / Alt + Right to navigate locations. So I set Alt + Ctrl + Left / Alt + Ctrl + Right to move between tabs.
