Does the iPhone 6 have a new way (off-screen / hard button) to open a hidden soft keyboard? I do not have a physical device for testing, but I see something new in the iPhone 6 simulator, which I do not see on the iPad or iPhone 5.
iPhone 6, in landscape mode, now has a "hide keyboard" button, like iPad did before. Here are the different types of behavior that I see, and I hope this is not a new problem that I need to develop my applications.
The initial steps are the same for the iPad and iPhone 6 simulators (and tested on the physical iPad and work just like the simulator):
Switch to landscape orientation
Open the Calendar application (maybe other applications too, but I wanted to give an example using my own application, this happens in my application, and thatβs why I donβt care)
Click + to add a new event.
Click in the text box
Click the "Hide Keyboard" button in the lower right corner
Click in another text box
On the physical iPad and iPad, the simulator keyboard opens again. With the iPhone 6 simulator, the keyboard does not open again.
I tried several different combinations of resignFirstResponder and startFirstResponder in my application to try to see it again, but nothing works. Since the Calendar app also has this problem, I hope this is actually not a problem, and is there a way for the user to manually open the keyboard if they want to? In the simulator, can I use "switch software keyboard" and it opens again, but not sure if the physical device has something that allows the user to open the keyboard again?
If I switch to another application or to the main screen, after that the keyboard will start working again as expected (tap the text field and open it).
