My problem is that the GWT developer plugin is disabled in the latest version of Chrome (37). The problem is its use, not installation. Chrome does not support installation (because it uses NPAPI calls, which I believe are a security risk). However, with a little research, I successfully installed the plugin using the workaround suggested in Installing the plugin for Google Web Toolkit developers and elsewhere.
However, although it is installed and appears to be installed on the extensions page, Chrome will not let it run. I also tried to solve this problem on the "Extensions" page by checking the "developer" checkbox. No difference. Chrome does not start it. I tried to find an earlier version of Chrome, which is also recommended as a workaround - by looking at sites like OldApps. They are no longer available - Oldapps tells me that I need to go to the Chrome download page. It seems that in blocking all routes to run software that might allow security breaches, the Chrome team made it impossible to launch Googleโs own development of Toosl. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I could not find messages that affect this last stage of the problem, which makes me wonder if this is one of my own solutions - however, I cannot get it to work.
Any thoughts?
