How to add an image to the address bar of a browser when viewing a page?

Currently the best way to get an icon to display in all browsers that support favicons?
Preferred way to use icons?

I want to add my logo to the address bar of the browser whenever it is viewed.

You need favicon - this is a 16x16 image in .ico , saved as favicon.ico in the root directory of your site. Some browsers also support other formats.

A new, more standards-based approach is to include something like this in your html header:

<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="/path/image.png"/>
