How can I install Xcode 6 alongside third-party Xcode 5?

I was wondering if there is a way that I could install Xcode 6 alongside third-party Xcode 5. I saw people say that they could, but they didn't really explain why. Can someone help explain why? Also, how would you delete it if you wanted in the future?

It's simple. The beta version of Xcode 6 is called Xcode6-beta.app , and you drag it into /Applications . The GM version of Xcode is called Xcode.app . If you need to switch command line tools, you use xcode-select . Nothing has changed here. This is the same as it was. When you want to β€œdelete” it, drag it to the trash. It's simple.

You can also change the default command line tools using the graphical interface if you prefer: Xcode> Preferences> Location, "Command Line Tools" drop-down menu ...

Caution, you can effectively install Xcode 6 and save Xcode 5, but this does not work perfectly. For example, it broke my Xcode 5 IOS6 simulators, and now I can not run my applications on this old version of ios (see here)

At the moment, I have not found any solution, and there may be other problems, so keep in mind that this operation is not without risk

You might be much better off creating an OSX Yosemite partition and installing Beta Software there. I moved my applications to the Yosemite section, and only Xcode 6 Beta 4 launched them - yes!

This is where I will work with unverified software.

Good luck
