GitHub for Windows cannot log in

Question

When I install GitHub, I cannot log in using my credentials. I get an error

Login Error unable to retrieve your user info from the server. A proxy server might be interfering with the request 

I tried reinstalling several times, without success. Also, I read somewhere that someone had a problem with rasman.dll, but I ran

 sfc /scannnow 

and did not receive any reports.

Do you have any ideas what might cause this problem?

UPDATE: I installed the application again for the third time and updated my .NET platform, and it solved my problem (I assume the .NET platform update was resolved, but maybe reinstalling helped :))

I ran into the same problem, the .NET framework update worked for me. No need to reinstall the GitHub Windows client. Check this thread
