Hide twitter bootstrap button

Question

Is there a way to make the winding twitter bootstrap button not appear on certain conditions so that it does not appear when you open the modal?

And in another case, turn it on again.

The button for hiding is inside the modal

Ive tried the following to no avail

 $("edit-modal-button").css('display','none'); $('edit-modal-button').hide();

Assuming the button identifier is a modal button edit; $('#edit-modal-button').hide(); will work, you simply did not specify in # to indicate that you are referencing the item id.
