Apache virtual host on Windows - how do I work with symbolic links?

I am trying to run a virtual host on a WAPP stack. My virtual host has a FollowSymLinks parameter, but on Windows all of these symbolic links (I use shortcuts, and I think it might be a problem) have the .lnk extension. Therefore, if I try to access settings.html , Apache cannot find it, because all I have is settings.html.lnk . Sorry if my question is unclear.

Apache does not understand shortcuts. You need to use the correct symbolic link. In windows, this is done using the mklink command-line tool. See http://ipggi.wordpress.com/2009/09/07/windows-file-junctions-symbolic-links-and-hard-links/ for more details.

For security reasons, Apache does not use character characters by default.

Better than including it in the configuration file using “FollowSymLinks Options”, you should use

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/urlmapping.html#outside

This is not the answer you expected, but may help ...
