How screenshots work in terms of software

Question

How the screenshot works from the point of view of the system. I tried to search, and it seems that all the sites that I find are "how to take a screenshot."

I'm more interested in how the screenshot works. Suppose I create my own small device with a screen, and the data is displayed on the screen, how to implement a screenshot (high level, although if you want me to suggest that the example will be nice) on my device.

EDIT: I see that I had a request to close, I believe that this question is too difficult to answer without much context, and perhaps it will eventually be considered obsolete, any recommendations on where to post such a question if this is not suitable a place?

This may not be useful at all, but the two screenshot utilities that I use on a regular basis are open source and read fairly short:

• The first is scrot , a simple command line program that takes screenshots using imlib2 . Both are implemented in C.
• The second is Google’s Chrome Screen Capture application, implemented in JS / C ++.
