Matlab The original equivalent in R

I am a user of Matlab and R. One of the great advantages of Matlab is that you can save a digit as a .fig file format. This allows all users to reopen the figure at any time later, so you can either make minor adjustments to the figure, or export the figure in other formats (jpg, tiff, eps, etc.) / Resolution, or use both options if necessary. Is there any way to do this in R ?? Sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes to create a detailed story, and then when I need to export it in a different format or resolution (albeit minor adjustments aside), I have no choice but to repeat the whole process! Isn't that annoying?

Check help for xfig.

xfig starts the graphics device driver for producing XFig (version 3.2) graphics.
