Write video in Flash to a file locally

I know that many such questions have been asked before, but most of them are out of date until three years ago. Can someone please help me with this:

I need to record video from a webcam for about an hour using flash. One option is that I directly pass it to the server. But just in case, is it possible to record video in Flash without streaming to a media server, such as Red5 or Adobe Media Server? I want to save it locally in the file system.

If possible, I can transfer the file in chunks to a media server. The idea is this: when a user uses it, I don’t want to eat all of his bandwidth, and he should have enough bandwidth to be able to view other sites in parallel (to enrich his experience). I can, in limited duration, transfer the stream of the buffered part.

Is it possible?

I believe this is possible with Adobe Air 2.0, but I have not tried it myself. Here are some links you might find useful. http://www.zeropointnine.com/blog/updated-flv-encoder-alchem/ http://mydevrecords.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/local-recording-in-adobe-air-using-red5. html

Hope this helps.

I think you can save your record file. Red5 does this automatically when you report this through an AS3 script for writing. It creates a file inside the red5 installation directory in the webapps / live / [channel name] /yourfile.flv file. IUt can only write in FLV format not in mp4, like Adobe media server, but it is still useful
