Tortoise SVN Verification Does Not Work in Windows 8

Hey, I just bought a new laptop, it has Windows 8 and the desktop I have is 7. The previous laptop that died was also 7. I downloaded the latest version of Tortoise SVN (1.8.1) on both the new laptop and 7 desktop computers to check the repository, and it works fine in 7, and will not even connect on machine 8. I cannot find any known problems that seem to relate to this.

Any help would be appreciated!

I found a solution, although it may not be a solution.

I installed Cygwin on my computer with Windows 8, and during the installation process I checked all the tools related to ssh . You can check if you installed it correctly if you find ssh.exe in the Cygwin directory. For example: C:\cygwin\bin\ssh.exe .

Now right-click "TortoiseSVN" in Explorer and select "Settings." Select "Network" and below, you will find that you can change the SSH client. Use C:\cygwin\bin\ssh.exe .

Now instead of TortoisePlink, the Cygwin ssh client will be used. I don’t know why this client works, and plink doesn’t, but he saved my day.

Additional note: I used to use Page so that I did not have to enter a password on my machine, but you can also follow these three steps to achieve the same result.

I experienced the same problem on Windows 8 machines twice (using a putty turtle). I needed to explicitly specify the user and password argument in TortoisePlink.exe.

You can add arguments to TortoiseSVN Settings-> Network-> SSH-> SSH Client. The value will look like this: "C: \ Program Files \ TortoiseSVN \ bin \ TortoisePlink.exe" -v -l username -pw password

The problem seems to be related to the authentication part. The Tortoise client cannot retrieve credentials from saved sessions on the spackler.

Hope this helps.

Hey, I just finished using my other computer (Windows 7 desktop), I only need SVN a couple more days, since it had never encountered this problem before. I was able to pull out another repository, so I am no longer going to spend more time on this problem.

I had a similar problem with Tortoise 64 bit in Windows 8.1 since all context menus disappeared. They were still present in various Open... dialogs.

I changed the %PATH% variable to have the turtle path right on the front, and the ctx menus are back.

My employee had this problem. @Kaz's answer helped me find a solution.

The problem seems to be related to the authentication part. The Tortoise client cannot retrieve credentials from saved sessions on the spackler.

My colleague's problem was that his default PUTTY settings in saved sessions were configured to use TELNET instead of SSH. Therefore, as soon as we saved the default settings to use SSH, it worked.
