Find nearby attractions

Question

I am looking for an API / web service in order to get a list of landmarks, points of interest (and their GPS coordinates) near this city. I tried google sites, including Place Search, and type point_of_interest, but the results do not seem satisfactory.

For example, in Paris I need an answer: the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, ...

What would you advise me to find such information.

There’s a “point_of_interest” flag in Google places, but only for display, not search (see table 2 in https://developers.google.com/places/documentation/supported_types )

On the other hand, Google Earth has what you need. See badges for a tourist attraction, monument, and historic site at https://support.google.com/earth/answer/180709?hl=en#what

However, I'm not sure if there is an API for this data, or if you need to find a way to extract it from GE.
