Is it possible to get Instagram feed via API?

When you open the Instagram APP application, you can watch your news channel, where you can see that someone is following you, loves or commented on a specific photo.

When I look at the Instagram API ( http://instagram.com/developer/ ), I can get my favorite comments and comments when I request a specific media ID. However, in order to find out someone has commented on my photo, I will need to scan the whole photo and request its comments to check if any new comments have been made.

Does anyone know a better way? Help is appreciated.

If this helps, the contents of the Next tab are available at http://instagram.com/api/v1/news/ and the News tab at http://instagram.com/api/v1/news/inbox/ (you need log in to your account). All URLs point to the instagram: // internal protocol, so you will need to replace them when parsing and there are apparently no pagination options.
