How to add an email group to the Google Play Store Alpha / Beta Testing

I am trying to add a Google group from my domain to the list of beta testers on Google Play for the application I developed.

My domain is "mydomain" and runs on Google Apps. A few days ago I created a group in the admin console. The group is called client-beta @mydomain. I am registered as richard @mydomain, as well as the owner and member of this group, as well as mydomain administrator.

When I try to add a group to the beta, it says: "To select a group from the Google Apps domain, you need to be logged in with an account in the domain." As far as I can tell, I logged in with an account in the domain.

I can add @ googlegroups.com groups, but that seems a bit less ideal.

Can someone tell me what is going on here?

This may be the answer to the question why this does not work:

It looks like the owner of the Developer Console should also be a member of your Google Apps domain.

"The publisher account owner who has registered with the Android Developer Console must be a Google Apps user in the same domain, for example, internal IT staff, not external developers."
