Can I add a note with emacs buffers?

While working on a project or while viewing code, I often open a lot of buffers in emacs. Often there are many things that I see in many windows. When the stack deepens in my mind, I often forget what exactly I was looking for in a buffer / file that I opened 15-30 minutes ago. Is there a way where I can add a small note to these buffers when I open them, so I can always get back to them.

Thanks.

I would recommend looking into the org mode function .

In the current open buffer, you can postpone the note for viewing later. You can set deadlines, TODO / WAITING tags and, most importantly, provide a hyperlink that will return you to the exact location in the buffer in which you marked the note. And you can recall the list of saved links from anywhere with a simple keystroke.

An alternative to using Org mode is to bookmark Emacs to keep track of where you have been and take notes about them.

You can add a note ("annotation") to any bookmark when you create it (see the bookmark-use-annotations parameter) or later (see Cx rl ), and you can edit such annotations at any time.

With Bookmark + you can even use temporary bookmarks that are not saved, and you can mark tags with any number of tags that you invent.

Both annotations and Bookmark + tags are free-form text. You can search for text in annotations or tags through any set of bookmarks. Easily organize bookmarks in a variety of ways, including switching between different sets.
