Firefox displays multiple characters less than font size

Here is a violin with some Unicode characters.

<p>★★★½☆</p>

Here it appears in Safari, as expected:

In Safari, the filled and open star characters are of a size with surrounding text

Here it is in Firefox:

In Firefox, they are significantly smaller than the surrounding text.

I badly need Firefox to look like Safari. What exactly is happening here, and what can I do about it?

These characters are not present in the font that you set in the stylesheet, so the browser backs up some font that has characters. This backup is done on a one-by-one basis, so different fonts can be used for different characters. In particular, I strongly doubt that Times New Roman has these star characters.

I suggest installing a font that actually has the characters that you use in your stylesheet.
