Is there no other way to rename a project than create a new project and copy files?
You can always edit the project/Build.scala and change the application name in this way. It will not change the directory name for you, but you can do it yourself.
project/Build.scala
For Play Framework 2.2.x, you can specify the name of the project in the build.sbt file located in the root folder of the project.
build.sbt
