To solve this problem:

Edit the file /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf and add the following line to the IMAP section:

 protocol imap { mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u }

Restart dovecot:

/etc/init.d/dovecot restart

Here it is.

For Centos 6.6 and Centos 7 nano / etc / postfix / main.cf

change the parameter to:

home_mailbox = mail /

nano / etc / dovecot / conf.d / 10-mail.conf

set parameter: mail_location = maildir: ~ / mail

restart service sudo sudo service dovecot restart

You tried to connect to the telnet server on port 143

try "telnet hostname _or_IP 143"

Verify that an email account mailbox exists on the server. Also, make sure that its MX is a local domain if the domain indicates the server on which you installed white mail. In case it uses a remote MX, you need to use a domain with MX on the current server.

dig + trace domain_name MX will show you the MX domain record.

there must be a mailbox, for example. do it like this:
- first install mailx
Then enter the following command (replace " mail@example.org " with the email address you use to enter squirrelmail)

  # mailx mail@example.org

- then the type of object of your choice and press Enter
then enter the text of your choice and press Enter. -long press ctrl + d

now you need to be able to log in
