Sony Smartwatch - smartwatch opening begins?

Today, almost by accident, I came across an announcement that Sony is opening firmware development and creating a project under its own hood here:

http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/open-smartwatch-project/

It's great!

But it still has a lot of question marks:

  • It would be great if there was an open source firmware version from which to start.

  • There are some hardware parts of the device that are undocumented, especially, for example, the fairly important Bluetooth chipset ST-Ericsson STLC2690. How should I write Bluetooth software for an undocumented chip?

  • There are, of course, half a dozen missing pieces of information, for example, for example. battery management, battery monitoring, display specifications, touch screen specifications, etc.

The project is so unusually cool that I really want to do something, but the information is still too small.

What I would like to do is transfer my Oswald SmartWatch project to Sony Smartwatch:

http://labs.kernelconcepts.de/Projects/Oswald/

Oswald currently only works on MetaWatch, for which I wrote all the necessary bits and parts, as well as a small Bluetooth stack. I would love to adapt this for the Smartwatch, given that more information has come from Sony.

Thanks!

Greetings

Nils

I was looking forward to opening custom code running on a smart card.

  • As soon as I get a description (or at least a code to find out ...) how they matched the gpio contacts for each peripheral device, I should get the basic code using all of these interfaces, working after a few days.
  • I based the code https://code.google.com/p/btstack/ and modified it a bit to make it work with the STEricsson CG2900 and stm32f205, so hopefully I will get BT and work for not too much time. If only the part of Bluetooth that you are interested in at the HCI level is pretty much standardized.
  • Agree, as you may have noticed, I asked for a hardware circuit, but we will not receive it.

A little deeper for the Open SmartWatch project - the results of the "Proof of Concept - Sony SmartWatch" workshop are now published on GitHub. This is a whole tool chain that supports the Arduino IDE. Check here and here (for fans of the command line).

I think you will find many answers to your questions. Please feel free to!

And also stay tuned on the Open Smartwatch website .
