Running DTS Packages on SQL Server 2012

Question

I read that DTS packages are not supported in SQL Server 2012. I know that there is a Backward Compatibility package / option that we used for SQL Server 2008R2 to run DTS packages. Will this backward compatibility package not work on SQL Server 2012?

As stated in the documentation, support for “migrating or running” DTS packages was completely discontinued in SQL Server 2012. Even if you convince your customers to upgrade to SQL 2012, you will first need to upgrade the packages to 2008 and then upgrade to 2012, so the sooner they will agree to upgrade to a newer version, the better, although I appreciate it - right or wrong - many customers will not see the point of paying for an update of what is still working.
