Opensource or library for implementing a store or application store

I am going to introduce a web market for digital content. Somehow its functions are similar to an application store where goods are sold - these are applications, but my goals in the market are digital content. Before I begin to implement everything from scratch, I want to make sure that I do not invent several wheels. Any recommended tools or personal experience are appreciated. Scalability is my main concern for adopting a tool.

I am doing some research here, and I have found some possible starting points:

  • Open the AppStore project : where it is not yet clear what has happened so far, but there are no code updates since the year
  • Edukap , which is actually a widget repository, has also not been updated since a year. However, the widget delivery / installation component seems to come from Wookie Apache .

More promising than the above, I found:

  • F-droid , which is an Android app store for open source apps. Its development seems quite active, and they have a working version of the store and customer. However, there seem to be no payment options, and I'm not sure that you can get the code from them without making it open.
  • Finally, there is the Ubuntu Software Center , which is perhaps the most promising.

You can check out GigaSpaces XAP (Extreme Application Platform). XAP is a distributed framework for developing scalable, highly accessible, self-healing, and transactional systems (and much more).
