Using Dropbox as a server for my django application

I don’t know if I understand at all, but it appeared in my head. Can we use free 2gb hosting for Dropbox to host our django app and do some hacks to launch our app?

What you need to understand is: is it possible to start django without installing djagno? Can i install django on a USB drive? Dropbox is a cloud storage service that is not a cloud service. For storage, you do not need RAM and processors during hosting.

Therefore, the answer is NO. If you are fine with apache settings, etc., you can upgrade to VPS. If you do not try some managed servers. If you don’t want to spend a lot and look at free hosting solutions for django, some of them are:

No, It is Immpossible.

If you want to use dropbox as a hosting, you can put static pages, which means only html files with CSS and javascript, because these files can be obtained by executing a simple GET request.

Hosting python code is not possible because it requires server-side computing, and dropbox is only for saving files.

See the official wiki for available hosts. https://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/DjangoFriendlyWebHosts

Yes it is possible! PythonAnywhere.com offers it!

What pythonanywhere does is pretty simple. They combine your Dropbox account with one. When you want to create a Django application, all you have to do is set up a platform to store the application in a folder with Dropbox!

Now you can open the Django application on your PC and edit it (wait a while for synchronization). Restart the application, it works! I almost tried it.

Tip. There are many cloud platforms that offer great services for free. Openshift, Heroku, Google App Engine should name a few!

No, you cannot use DropBox to serve the Django website, as this requires running Python code when DropBox is only for saving and maintaining files.

You can, however, find free hosting for your Django needs, including:

Heroku , originally designed for Ruby hosting, but now allows you to do Python hosting. I did not find it particularly easy to use with Django.

ep.io , Python-specific hosting, but invite only for the moment - you can get it by sending an email explaining your project and your needs. Offers you free SSL on * .ep.io, which is pretty nice and they have great service.

Dotcloud , not platform specific, but my personal favorite. It's pretty easy to get started, and the CLI allows you to do a lot (but the disadvantage is that you need it too). If you are not afraid of the CLI, that's great.

Saying that it is not possible from dropbox to do this, you can use very simple cloud hosting, as mentioned above, I can be late for an answer, but you can get free cloud hosting from Linux Fedora by RedHat. Their cloud product is available for free, which supports django hosting. I tried this on my own Openshift Free Cloud Hosting
