What happened to swing labs or swingx-ws? JXMapKit for Java

I am new to java and have studied several tutorials on using GIS or geogrpahical java GUI applications.

Many of them mention and, apparently, need components and classes swingx-ws or swing labs.

I managed to find some old versions, but they do not have the desired effect in my Jform application.

Basically, when I try to drag and drop after adding .jar to my libraries folder, I get a smoking sign (a joke) or a rejected character.

I also added components to the palette through the palette manager, and they appear after they are selected, but when I try to add, I get a javja no class error.

Many of the links in the textbooks seem to send me to dead sites and are pretty old.

Mostly my question. Is swingx-ws an active option for adding display functions to gui java applications? And if not, are there any other alternatives?

Thanks in advance

This is the tutorial I'm trying to complete.

I don't know what features you are looking for, but look at the JMapViewer and see if this will do the trick.

Outdated answer, there are much newer options:

I used JOSM as a library of map components, but since this is not intended use, it may not be entirely straightforward.

You can also use gvSIG2 as a library of map components. They rebuilt the code in this version (2) to simplify the use of gvSIG as a library, but this version is still in beta.
