How to change my.ini settings of an Amazon RDS instance

When starting an RDS instance of MySQL 5.5, Amazon uses the default parameter group to configure my.ini parameters, but the console does not allow me to change them. How can i achieve this? (for example, setting the default storage engine in MyISAM or setting the character set ...)
