Any ideas how to get around this?

I really can’t complete the new installation, as my Eclipse is completely loaded with other functions that I use in my projects. And porting functions from an existing Eclipse installation to a new installation is painful in my experience (not considering whether this will work).

So, I just unzipped the ADT zip file into the Eclipse installation, after which it worked.

Download the ADT plugin , unzip and copy all the folders (features, plugins, networks ...) into your Eclipse installation folder.

if you used window 7 than trying to run as administrator

The only solution I found was to reinstall Eclipse from scratch. This is actually quite simple since all you have to do is unpack the package.

So, I took the opportunity to upgrade to Eclipse Indigo at the same time.

I had the same problem and tried to copy all the files from ADT PLUGIN , re-installed eclipse, but none of them helped, Only updating eclipse (Help> Check for Updates) solved the problem.

BNW, STACK OVERFLOW has the same discussion.

Error messages can be unexpectedly useful. The error message indicates that you have a conflicting dependency. If this was my mailbox, I would probably uninstall all Eclipse instances and then install the one you want and see if this works.

Just unzip the ADT and copy the contents to the appropriate folders when installing eclipse. Restart Eclipse. The problem will be solved.

If you came to this old thread while trying to upgrade your Eclipse Helios SDK to Lollipop, note the dependencies:

ADT 23.0.4 (October 2014)

Your existing Eclipse installation must meet the following requirements:

  • Eclipse 3.7.2 (Indigo) or greater
    • Note. Eclipse 3.6 (Helios) is no longer supported with the latest version of ADT.
  • Eclipse JDT Plugin (included with most Eclipse IDE packages)
  • JDK 6 (JRE only is not enough)
  • Not compatible with GNU Compiler for Java (gcj)

I upgraded to Eclipse Luna and these errors did not appear again.
