I'm having trouble installing rubies using the multi-user RVM installation

I followed the instructions on the RVM website on how to perform a multi-user installation. When I try to install the ruby version, I get the following:

$ /usr/local/rvm$ rvm install 1.9.2 Installing Ruby from source to: /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.2-p290, this may take a while depending on your cpu(s)... ruby-1.9.2-p290 - #fetching ruby-1.9.2-p290 - #downloading ruby-1.9.2-p290, this may take a while depending on your connection... You tried to use

 rvmsudo rvm install 1.9.2

source

I fixed the same problem without any sudo stuff, which is completely not recommended using the upisdown solution in this question.
