How to unzip / extract * .nib files from a compiled iOS application

Is there a way to get uncompressed * .nib files from a * .ipa file that is downloaded from iTunes? I know that there are ways to extract resources (jpg / png / sounds) using File juicer or similar tools. But I'm looking for a tool that can extract * .nib or * .xib files from a * .ipa file to reuse nib.

Thanks for any help.

I believe in an older version of Xcode, perhaps 3.0 or even earlier, Interface Builder could read .nib files. They are mostly compiled as source code, and there is no way to unzip them or see the contents, just as .png images are crushed.

Update

The video found on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dInaIlzVsn8 , but did not try. Claims to be able to open compiled .nib files.

Update 2

Here is another possible way to open a compiled .nib. This process requires that you extract .nib from the Hulu Desktop application, which has not been compiled or replaced.

A little late answer, but may save others from the hassle of finding a better solution.

To extract nib files from a .ipa file:

  • Rename MyApp.ipa to MyApp.zip
  • Take it out
  • Inside the extracted folder, right-click MyApp.app and click Show Package Contents
  • Here you will have all the resources, including nib files.

To open nib files in the interface builder, convert them to xib files using NibUnlocker from http://www.charlessoft.com
