Slide down in android

Question

I would like to have a button in an Android app to open a slide view of the form. I want to have a view at the top of the screen, a list at the bottom of the screen, and I want the slide down window to appear between them when the button is clicked.

I have no problem displaying the view, but it cannot seem to be animated from hidden to shown on the screen.

Any ideas on how this might work?
