Does Eclipse support virtual white space?

Soon, I join a company that relies heavily on developing Eclipse for Java. For my own development, I used only other tools, so now I get acquainted with Eclipse before starting my contract.

One of the features I'm used to is Virtual Empty Space . This allows you to click anywhere in the specified text area and start typing. If the space is not saved before your cursor, it will be automatically filled. You can see an example of this behavior with the ConTEXT text editor or by enabling it in the settings of the Visual Studio editor.

I cannot find an option for it in Eclipse. Is there an option that I'm missing, or will I have to look for a plugin to enable this feature?

There is no plugin in Eclipse that provides this feature right now.

As far as I can see from the TextEditor class (the basis for almost all Eclipse editors), creating such an editor will be a daunting task.

You can easily get the click Point β€” via addMouseListener(...) is not possible to add spaces to the editor document without being a separate canceled operation that modifies the document. This should be an additional requirement.
