Is it safe to use ASIHTTPRequest?

Ben Copsy declined ASIHTTPRequest. It was announced almost two months ago , but I just realized it.

I use it in the middle of the project. It would not be a big problem for me to replace it with something else at this stage (everyone is talking about AFNetworking right now), but:

  • If I can avoid replacing it, that’s better. I would rather spend time on other things.
  • I would like to support iOS <4, but AFNetworking and LRResty are only 4>
  • I also have several other applications that are highly dependent on it.

I am sure other people are in my situation. So my question is: is it safe to continue using it?

If this already works for you, it makes no sense to replace it. Ben only stopped its development, this does not mean that others cannot continue to develop it.

It just means that it will not be updated.

In a blog post, he provided other options that you can use.

I would continue to use it. He probably stopped working on this because he had all the functionality and was full for the whole time (jk). Seriously, however, this is a great library, and your only fear may be something that might break in the new version of iOS, but I guarantee that someone will develop a fix for something like that.
