Why is jython slow?

Hi guys: Jython performance is usually critical as slow - is there a specific reason for this? Or is it just a modern myth ... And most importantly ... What is the future of Jython and how aggressively is it developing? Will the ability of a script in python against the JVM be sufficient enough to be used in native mode?

Jython 2.5.2 was released in March and is included in its release notes for release 2.5.2 . 2 runs the bestseller test 3 times faster, and the pystone benchmark is 20% faster than 2.5.1.
