Crystal Report object reference not set to object instance

I have crystals reports that keep talking about this error:

{"The reference to the object is not installed in the instance of the object." }

Sometimes it loads, most of the time it says it. It seems to alternate. For example, if I re-run the report, it will load the report as expected, and then will not be in the second run. What's wrong?

it stops in this code: crview.ShowDialog ();

To give you a background, I use the data source in the same way as in otehr reports. but other reports have no such problem. Who can tell me? thanks.

While this is an older topic, here's how I solved my problem.

I found that I have a text box with a formula that extends beyond the page. Thus, a new page was created with a NULL string. The formula worked and caused the following error:

Error System.NullReferenceException Message = The object reference is not installed in the object instance.

I only saw this from time to time, because the return value sometimes led to the growth of TextObject.

To solve this problem,

  • I can fix the formula for handling NULL, although this still leads to an extra blank page
  • Move the text box within my page size and set CanGrow to False.

I chose both due to the fact that the user could inadvertently cause blank pages by choosing a smaller paper size on his printer.

An update for Crystal Reports for the redefinable version of Visual Studio 13_0_3 to solve this problem for me.

Solved! I have had this problem for years! I work with a DataSet as a reportSource. Finally, after checking every solution that I could find on the forums, I myself found the answer: the DataSet contained null values, so I just needed to create the DataSet DefaultValue string fields: "" instead of DBNull ... dead simple but effective.

Hope this helps.
