I had a similar problem, and sometimes I do it today. Have you tried removing AVD and then re-creating it?
Also try changing some of the AVD values, give it a larger ram, a larger SD card. You can do this through Window> Android SDK and AVD Manager> Change AVD, and then add values ββ/ resize the SD card.
EDIT: Also, just for reference, I have an Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM and AVD STILL to boot forever.
EDIT: Another useful thing is to know that if you check the "Snapshot" box when editing AVD, it will save the last state and load, not a full [slow] download. It looks like your computer is asleep.
