Is there an effective way to “continuous” autofocus?

I am working on an Android application using a camera, and the only means of focusing the image I found requires the use of built-in autofocus. Its functionality is great when you want to take a picture, but when you work with video, this is a completely different story.

Is there a way to adjust focus repeatedly without resetting the current focus?

Applications can still call takePicture(Camera.ShutterCallback, Camera.PictureCallback, Camera.PictureCallback) in this mode, but the object may not be in focus. Auto focus starts when the option is set. Applications should not call autoFocus(AutoFocusCallback) in this mode. To stop continuous focus, applications must change the focus mode to other modes.
