There are several ways to place something below the status bar.
1. You can add a UIView to a UIWindow and put it in the status bar. Set the status bar style to black translucent so that the picture is visible. Resize your rootViewController accordingly so that it does not overlap your view.
2. In addition, you can set the wantsFullScreenLayout property of your rootViewController to true so that it spans the entire screen and controls the view hierarchy within it. You also need to set the status bar style to black translucent.
Alternatively, you can add views above the status bar, but I don't think this is a good user interface. Here's how you can do it: Add a UIView over all other views, including the StatusBar
