Custom Wordpress Editor?

Looking around for hours, I could not see anything even close to what I saw here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2Bu5NoYZ7M&feature=player_embedded

As you can see, they created their own editor for Wordpress (and not just some changes for TinyMCE), its entire editor, even with the ability to switch to TinyMCE.

Does anyone know how to create custom editors for wordpress without changing the main files and only using a custom theme? I'm starting to think it's a regular meta box ... but I'm not sure.

Any hint would be much appreciated!

I suggest using a plugin to extend the default tinymce WP use .. Take a look at this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-edit/screenshots/

If you really want a completely different editor, ckeditor is fine. There is also a plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ckeditor-for-wordpress/screenshots/

Always use or write a plugin, do not change any kernel files, this is really the way to go!

Please let me know what you think!
