Why is the Android tablet emulator so slow? Is there any way to speed it up?

My tablet does not exist yet, so I have to use the emulator for development at the moment. But it is slow, and it is almost not applicable. Does anyone have any trick to speed it up a bit?

I am working on a very decent machine:

MacBook Pro, 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo, 8G memory, SSD.

It is slow because it simulates an ARM processor on an x86 machine. It means that:

  • All hardware acceleration is lost and must be emulated in software, and
  • All system calls must be restructured.

Google is working on better ways to work with graphics, but nothing has been released yet.

I know the trick. Upgrade to a better processor, preferably not subject to the limitations of a laptop.
