Where can I find the version numbers of gems with the Ruby version that it is compatible with?

This question says it all.

For example, I have a server installed with ruby 1.8.6 enabled. And when I try sudo gem install roo , it gives the error nokogiri requires Ruby version >= 1.8.7 . So, I want to install an older version of roo , which is compatible with Ruby 1.8.6 . But I do not know where to look. I know RubyForge , but it also does not talk about compatible versions of Ruby.

A brute force approach would be to get a git clone, look where it points to the Ruby version, and use git blame or even a git pick to determine the latest version that did not have this requirement.

I had this exact problem. It turns out that nokogiri 1.5 refuses to support 1.8.6.

Latest Nokogiri version for support 1.8.6 - version 1.4.4
