Creating a tree in Excel

I have data in an Excel worksheet, which is a hierarchy. Since the tree is large, and viewing data becomes a rather difficult task, I am trying to create a graphical representation of the tree. Excel has no built-in support for tree generation. What would be the best way to generate a tree from Excel? Are there any add-ons?

Suggestions regarding tree generation using other tools are also welcome. (I already tried the org chart option in Visio. For some reason, it was not able to open the Excel file.)

Perhaps you could use the Tree Tree control in a use form, you can find a great tutorial here . I have never used it personally.

VisualStudio 2010 seems to allow you to do something a little smarter: you can look here . But I don’t know enough of this part of MS to help you more along the way.

Nevertheless, the subject was discussed in another forum , pointing to other third-party tools.

There is a solution for the node-link or treemap tree . But this requires a different tool, since drawing it in Excel would only be very difficult, if not impossible.

I suggest using the Funfun Excel add-in, which allows you to use JavaScript directly in Excel. With the ability to use JavaScript, you can use powerful libraries like D3.js or HighChart.js to make the drawing tree diagram much easier.

Here are two examples of tree generation in Excel.

In the first example, I used D3.js and Hightchats.js in the second example. I made these two examples in the Funfun online editor and then linked them to my Excel. You can check the code from the links below.

Here is what you need to do to link these samples with your Excel.

1). Insert the Funfun Add-in from the Office Add-In Repository

2). Create a new Funfun or download a sample from the Funfun online editor.

3) Good luck :)

I used the TreeView ActiveX control on Excel worksheets, and that's fine. HOWEVER, depending on your version of Windows and what security updates you have, it may or may not work. I developed an application that uses one for a large city bank, but we had to completely rework when some updates were applied across the company. After a very long and useless discussion with Microsoft in the USA, we will not go anywhere. If you google "excel treeview security updates", you will find various discussions. I suggest using a third party, although I cannot offer it.
